D3000 SLR Digital Camera Kit w/18-200mm VR Lens

Strengths: Low price, high quality and ease of use.

Weakness: I little heavy but doable.

Great camera for the price. Fast shutter speed allowing to take pictures at the right time. The lens is great with the VR option and it takes very sharp pictures. The colors in raw mode are fantastic! I recommend this camera to pros as well as amateurs. The menus are easy to read and scroll through. A great camera for the price!

Raving reviews justified

Strengths: Awesome speed, picture quality, and flexibility. Rugged. Best monitor for now.

Weakness: A bit heavy. Expensive.

After waiting all these years I finally took the plunge & bought my first digital SLR (after reading many reviews). It's an awesome camera for sure, and the 18-200mm lens pretty much can handle most shooting situations. But to use it u need to have relative strong hands/wrists since the combo weight of both units are slightly cumbersome... However with the picture quality as good as it is, its...

Nice Upgrade from the D70!

Strengths: Versatility, frame rate, LCD screen, overall quality.

Weakness: Versatility :), weight, complicated and useless manual.

I've been using my D70 for four years now and was ready for an upgrade. This thing is pricey, but it's also a lot more feature-full than my D70. I like macro photography. The frame rate (up to 8 fps with the optional MB-D10), the mirror lock up mode, even the live view mode are all great and useful for photographing little critters in the wild. On the down side, it's a bit heavy, so a monopod is...

Fabulous Camera - Nikon D300

Strengths: Fast response time, very accurate exposure, good low light capability, overall picture quality

Weakness: Very expensive, Live View is not practical to use, camera weighs a "ton".

Overall this is a very nice camera. Features in it's favour include fast on-time, fast recovery, quick focus, and excellent photo quality. The grip is slightly too large for me, so it is not comfortable to hold for long periods. Working against this camera is the weight - - I can't believe it is possible to make a camera so heavy in this age of nano-technology and composite materials. Setting up...

Nikon D300 w 18-200mm VR Zoom Lens- Awesome Combo

Strengths: High ISO, 3" LCD screen, 51 point autofocus and Live view, longer life battery

Weakness: A bit heavy with the bigger lenses, need to hold lens if shooting down otherwise the lens (18-200mm) slips out

Contemplated the upgrade from the D200 but after comparing the pictures at higher ISO settings the decision was easy. The more I shoot with this camera the more I like it over the D200. The feel, weight and quality are similar. There are many little things that make it overall a much better camera. Once you learn how to tweak all the light settings for different situations, it takes much better...

Great Camera, Great Lens

Strengths: Camera loaded with lots of capability, backward compatible with older MF lenses; 18-200 VR lens is a perfect match for this camera.

Weakness: $$$

I had been looking for a dSLR for a month or so now. I use to do quite a bit of photography a 10 years ago, and had acquired many Nikkor lenses (MF and early AF). I had given up on film due to the convenience of digital point and shoots and cost of developing. I had been debating between the D80 and D200. I was favoring the D200 due to the ability to meter with my older lenses, but was debating...

Nikon D300 Black SLR Digital Camera Kit w/ 18-200mm...

Strengths: Ergonomic, low light performance, body construction, sratch resistant high resolution monitor, convienance from wide angle to telephoto, excellent optical performance for such a wide zoom range

Weakness: Lots of user define functions buried in complicated and deep menuals. Overwhelming and could be bewildering. The 18-200VR is kind of plastic, low (less than 200)ISO performance

I bought a Canon 5D/24-105L IS during the 2007 year end campaign. Tried it for two weeks and did not like the ergonomic and the vignetting problem. Read some articles online about what the D300 could do, and got my D300/18-200VR and I love it. I used to own a Nikon FM back in the 80's. In the mid 90's I jumped ship to Canon because of the superior autofocus technology they offered. Now I am back...

18-200mm is the perfect companion for the Nikon D300...

Strengths: Contains the most advanced and complete set of professional features in its class. With the versatility of the 18-200mm len, you could start shooting wonderful pictures "right out of the box".

Weakness: At least 50% more expensive than its competitors.

I just migrated to the Nikon world, and that's basically mean that I have to build up my equipment set from scratch. I chose the 18-200mm because of (1) its versatility, and (2) its performance. After shooting first couple sets of photos, I definitely enjoyed the quality and the build of the 18-200mm lens. Beside, with the power of D300, the auto-focusing is instantaneous and the picture looks...

Excellent Semi-Pro Camera!

Strengths: Fast start time, high quality pictures at 12mp, 100% coverage through viewfinder, excellent zoom range, and free Nikon Capture DX software.

Weakness: Price is the only drawback.

If youre not a Nikon user already, this is the camera that should switch you over. Its excellent construction and high quality pictures as high as 1600 make it the best semipro camera on the market currently. Much better than the Canon 40d which I used prior to getting this camera.

A truly great camera, and Fun to use!

Strengths: many features are packed into the camera and it's incredibly easy to use

Weakness: a little heavy and so is the Price

well I've owned Canon Digital Rebel for a few years and learned on it,so I and decided to step up to a D300 Whoa! what a difference like night and day, so many features, The ergonomics of a camera are fantasic, a beautiful 3 inch LCD screen, and able to shoot great pictures in low light, also great for portrait photographs I have only been using this camera for 3 days now and I have taken dozens of...

Nikon D300 (w/ 18mm-200mm lens)

THE GOOD: Excellent performance and photo quality; solidly built; extremely flexible custom settings architecture; onboard wireless flash controller. THE BAD: A bit too expensive, given the competition. THE BOTTOM LINE: Visibly better photo quality and slightly improved performance make the Nikon D300 a significant upgrade over the D200 and an excellent all-around choice.

Nikon D300

If you were to ask me what I found the most important camera of 2007 I would definitely place the Nikon D300 at the top, without a single doubt. A spot that the camera could possibly only share with the Nikon D3. The new Nikon D300 is a beautiful work-horse and meets the requirements of the professional photographer. It is an ideal camera for those who find the D3 too big or just too expensive,...

Nikon D300 Digital Camera Review

The 12.3-megapixel Nikon D300 updates the older D200 with more resolution on a new CMOS sensor that promises improved noise control. The D300 is the first DSLR in Nikon’s line to include dust reduction, and sits between the $999 D80 and the $3,499 D2Hs. It has an awesome 3-inch live view LCD screen, as does the pro model D3, with some of the best resolution on the market - 921,000 pixels....
